“Dorian Delureanu spent 7 years doing theater photography in Craiova, between 1993-2000: “I fondly remember that those years – very difficult from an economic point of view – represented for me a “romantic” period in which, alongside important life events (marrying Roxana and the birth of Dan), I had the chance to photograph iconic performances staged by important directors such as Silviu Purcărete, Beatrice Bleonț, Mihai Măniuțiu, Tompa Gábor, Cristian Hadji-Culea, Vlad Mugur.” (excerpt from the book text)
“The black-and-white photographs are part of a batch of negatives that had been preserved for over 25 years in the theater’s archive, now being published for the first time. In 2024, Dorian received several challenges related to his theater photography portfolio, and his response to these was materialized in this first image-text project, a memory exercise in which the image captured on photographic film acts as a catalyst.
At the rehearsal on May 9, 1998, alongside director Silviu Purcărete, the photos prominently feature actors on stage or in the auditorium, including Maia Morgenstern, Mirela Cioabă, Tamara Popescu, Ozana Oancea, Anca Dragomir, Adriana Moca, Natașa Raab, Ilie Gheorghe, Valer Dellakeza, Angel Rababoc, Adrian Andone, Constantin Cicort, Ion Colan, Marian Negrescu, as well as technical director George Dulămea or production manager Gabriel Mănescu.”
